Hibernacula offers a more literal twist on the traditional Claddagh Ring: The hands hold a tiny anatomical heart, crowned by artery and aorta. Each heart holds a jewel within it, a representation of the preciousness of your love.

The Claddagh are the the traditional Irish 'fede' ring, a talisman that dates back to classical times. These rings originally featured hands clasped in a pledge. Such rings were exchanged as a symbol of loyalty, faithfulness, and trust between partners, in both friendship, business, and love.

Later, these things took on a more romantic overtone, and were often exchanged as engagement rings.
The traditional Irish Claddagh dates back to the 18th Century. This ring includes a crowned heart cradled in the hands. The hands represent a pledge of loyalty friendship, the heart is love, and the crown represents honor and fealty. The way these rings are worn can signal something about one's relationship status:

  1. On the right hand with the point of the heart toward the wrist: the wearer is not looking for a relationship (may already be in one or may not be in one, but is not looking).
  2. On the right hand with the point of the heart toward the fingertips: the wearer is single and may be looking for love.
  3. On the left ring finger with the point of the heart toward the fingertips: the wearer is engaged or in a relationship.
  4. On the left ring finger with the point of the heart toward the wrist: the wearer is married.
